Eugene Shelly - Board Chair

Eugene ShellyEugene Shelly, M.Div., is a Pastoral Counselor and a licensed Mental Health Counselor in private practice specializing in couples therapy. He has been a certified Imago Therapist for over 20 years. In addition to presenting couples’ workshops, he is a Clinical Instructor of the Institute for Imago Relationships International. For many, his gentle presence is a “hallmark” of his personality. His astute understanding of couples’ interactions and problems provides safety for his private work and for his public presentations.

Ron Clark - Treasurer

Ron Clark - TreasurerRonald A. Clark came to the counseling and consultation field from the Marine Corps where he served in a wide range of command and staff billets in the infantry, intelligence, counterintelligence, and research and development fields. He is fluent in Chinese Mandarin and retired as a senior officer after serving 23 years. After retiring from the Marine Corps 32 years ago, Ron received a Masters in Social Work specializing in family therapy and quickly became one of the innovators and early trainers in the family therapy field. During that time he was able to train, work and consult with many of the pioneers in the field of family therapy. Early in his counseling career he became a noted and sought out speaker and workshop presenter in family therapy. He held a faculty position in the graduate school, Catholic University of America in Washington, D. C. and served as the Clinical Director and Supervisor of a teaching clinic for second year graduate social work students specializing in family mental health. He also worked in community mental health settings. While employed at the mental health center, he introduced family therapy as a treatment model. He also developed and established a forensic unit for Loudoun County Mental Health. He worked with sheriff and police departments in developing trainings in stress management and communication programs.

Over the past twenty five years, Mr. Clark has operated a private counseling practice as a family therapist and relationship specialist. In addition to the practice of family and relationship counseling, Mr. Clark developed and operates four other successful businesses, to include Clark Associates and Clark Distributors Invisible Fence. He shepherded the invisible fence product from modest beginnings over twenty five years ago to its current multileveled and multi state operation. These remain successful businesses. He is trained in management and organizational development and provides consultation to businesses and rganizations. Ron serves on the Board of Directors for Imago Relationships International, including participation as treasurer, and serving on other committees in that organization.

Julie Drezner - Secretary

Julie Drezner has more than 30 years' experience working with nonprofit organizations and philanthropic grant making programs throughout the United States. Her expertise spans a wide range of social issues and organizational management concerns. As a seasoned planner, advisor and facilitator, she has led numerous organizations and collaborative efforts through successful planning and organizational development. Since 1989, Julie has served as principal of The Drezner Group, a consulting firm offering planning and management services to nonprofit organizations.

Her husband, Rob Drezner, Ph.D, is a Certified Imago therapist and Julie is an Imago Educator having completed the Imago Certification Training in 2004.

Sara Boxnboim

Sara BoxnboimSara Boxnboim is a Certified Imago Therapist, Advanced Clinician, and Workshop Presenter. She is the co- founder of the Imago Forum in Israel formed in 2000. In her previous career as a Computer System Programmer, she specialized in Computer Communication.

Since 1987, she has been dealing with human communication, in many relationships, including family, couples, parent-child, and working teams. Sara is married to Avi, and they have 5 children and 4 grandchildren.

William Brennan

Bill BrennanBill Brennan is a licensed psychologist for 27 years practicing in Pennington, New Jersey. He is married almost 42 years to Gerry who is also an Imago therapist. They are parents to two daughters and grandparents to 2 ½ year old twins. Bill has been an Imago therapist since 1992 and a workshop presenter for over a dozen years. He was also active in the governance of the Association of Imago Relationship Therapists, the predecessor to IRI.

Maureen Brine

Maureen BrineMaureen Brine is a respected, well known Canadian psychotherapist, educator, and consultant. An Imago Therapist and International Addictions Specialist, she has been in the Health Care Profession since 1971.

Maureen has completed the majority of her training with Dr. Harville Hendrix. She is the former Co-Dean of the Faculty of the Institute for Imago Relationship Therapy, past president and co-founder of the Association for Imago Relationship Therapy of Ontario and Quebec. Maureen is currently the Past Chair of Imago Relationships International.

In private practice since 1985, she has had successful practices in Vancouver and Toronto working with couples and individuals. Maureen is a much sought after speaker, workshop presenter and trainer. She has wonderful teaching abilities as she combines her profound knowledge and skill with a rare intuitiveness and sensitivity. Her main focus is the basic clinical training, advanced courses and supervision. Maureen loves to empower therapists to enhance and energize their work with couples using Imago tools that work.

Maureen deeply believes in the mission of Imago which is “to create a new way to love and to transform the world one relationship at a time.” Her passion for Imago is evident in her workshops, training and private life.

Dan Glaser

Dan Glaser is a Pediatrician and non-therapist who is married to an Imago Therapist, and therefore has a unique perspective on Imago and its uses in the world. He has been around Imago since 1994 and has done many of the trainings. He has been on the Finance and Nominating Committees and has worked (behind the scenes and at the Global Summits) with Maryrita for the Global Membership Committee. Dan’s hope is that Imago will continue to expand into health care, family services, schools, and parenting.

Thomas W. Johnson Jr., MD, MBA, FAIHQ

Thomas W. Johnson Jr. MD, MBA, FAIHQ is currently Senior Medical Director for the Service Parts Operations Division of General Motors and is responsible for overseeing all North American Health Service locations including Canada and Mexico. Dr. Johnson has held various past pre-production, manufacturing and Headquarters positions while with General Motors. Recent past positions include Site Medical Director of the 22,000 employee research and design focused Tech Center as well as Site Medical Director for the General Motors Renaissance Center Global World Headquarters.

Prior to General Motors Dr. Johnson was in private practice and an Attending Physician in the Department of Internal Medicine, Harper Hospital at the Detroit Medical Center of Wayne State University. Tom completed his premedical studies at Howard University in Washington, DC and is a graduate of Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. Upon completing his specialty training Dr. Johnson served as a civilian consultant ER physician for the 101st Airborne Special Forces. Additionally he served as a physician with the United States Public Health Service.

Dr. Johnson received his Masters in Business Administration with a special focus in Health Care Administration in 1998 and for his thesis created a corporation that marketed wellness products nationally. While achieving his MBA Tom was inducted into the Kappa Gamma Pi National Catholic Honor Society.

General Motors appointed Tom to the board of the Greater Flint Health Coalition in 2003. This board is dedicated to increasing healthcare quality in Michigan and has received positive recognition by the Governor of the State of Michigan.

Dr. Johnson’s current area of expertise is Health Administration and Healthcare Quality making him one of a small number of physicians with specialty expertise in Health Administration as well as Healthcare Quality. He is currently certified by and a Diplomate of the American Board of Quality Assurance Utilization Review Physicians. In mid 2006 Dr. Johnson was admitted as a Fellow to the American Institute of Healthcare Quality.

Karl Leitner

Karl Leitner is a Graduate School of Business Administration alumnus. He has more than 20 years in charge of "Institute of Management Development". He also has experience in Teaching Management, Organizational Development and Team Development at three Universities (two in Austria, one in Germany). As well as Coaching organizational and team development processes in Austrian and German companies and organizations. Karl is a Certified Psychotherapist and Certified Imago Therapist.

Dave Mills

Dave Mills works full-time as a Priest in the Anglican Church of Southern Africa and has done so for the past 24 years. He is currently on the Imago Educational Track, looking forward to joining his wife Joy Clarke (Social Work Therapist in Private Practice) in attending the Couples Workshop Presenters Training, to be conducted by Jette Simon later this year in South Africa. He is also the Imago Africa Board Chairman, a position he has held since October 2004. He is a member of the Global Membership Committee and Imago Strategic Planning Sub-committees for the IRI Board. Dave and Joy have two children, Beth (27yrs old) and Caroline (21yrs old).

Sulaiman Nuriddin
Sulaiman began working with MSV in 1987 after completing MSV's year-long internship program. As Men's Educational Program Manager, he oversees educational interventions for MSV. Sulaiman works intensively with the DeKalb County Court Program, intervening with men at the Magistrate Court domestic violence calendar and co-instructing ongoing classes for convicted and self-referred men. Sulaiman has been instrumental in planning effective interventions with men of color who batter. He has co-led national and regional trainings for institutions and organizations including the National Council of Churches, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Public Health, the National Basketball Association Summer Youth Program and the Atlanta Police Department.

Sulaiman was instrumental in the development and coordination of the African-American initiative, which served in an advisory capacity to MSV relating to concerns in the African-American community. The Initiative was actively involved in speak-outs, workshops, and discussions about violence against women in the African-American community.

Sulaiman has participated in discussion groups regarding domestic violence with the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, the U.S. Department of Housing and the U.S. Department of Justice.

Sulaiman serves on the Black Church and Domestic Violence Institute Board of Directors.

Dr. Gail Parker

Gail Parker, Ph.D. is a Psychologist in private practice in Bingham Farms, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. Dr. Parker completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and her Masters and Doctoral degrees at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Parker is a certified Imago Relationship Therapist.

Dr. Parker offers individual and group psychotherapy specializing in counseling adults, families, singles and couples with a special emphasis on interpersonal relationships. She is a lecturer and a workshop leader.

Dr. Parker has served as a consultant to various Fortune 100 companies, non-profit organizations, and school districts, with a focus on helping these organizations develop inclusive environments through the mastery of cross racial/cross cultural dialogue.

Dr. Parker was an adjunct member of the faculty at the University of Michigan Business School in the Executive Education Department from 1994 to 2004 teaching business managers, leaders, and executives, effective coaching and interpersonal skills.

In addition to her work as a psychotherapist, Dr. Parker is also a Media Psychologist. She is well known for her work as a psychologist/feature reporter on local and national newscasts and has appeared as a psychologist/expert on a variety of nationally syndicated talk shows including seven appearances on the “Oprah Show”. She has appeared on the “Phil Donahue Show”, the “Jenny Jones Show”, and was a frequent guest host on the nationally syndicated show “PBS Late Night”. She has also served as script consultant on nationally featured documentaries for the Public Broadcast System. In July, 2006 Dr. Parker participated as a psychologist expert in a PBS broadcast, “Reclaiming the Village”, a series of broadcasts addressing parenting issues in the African American community. She has also hosted her own radio talk show called Ask the Psychologist, on WXYT radio in Detroit.

Dr. Parker is featured in the 2006 Inaugural Edition of Who’s Who in Black Detroit.

Dr. Parker is married and is the mother of one son.

Robert Patterson

Bob PattersonBob Patterson is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Professional counselor who has been in private practice for over twenty years. Bob is also a consultant, trainer, and coach for Fortune 500 corporations and family businesses and has presented the Getting the Love You Want workshop over 200 times during the past fifteen years. He has trained with Dr Harville Hendrix and is a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist and Workshop Presenter. Bob is known for his clarity of presentation and, on his good days, his humor.

Dan Prosser

Dan Prosser is a business futurist and strategist. He founded theBESTPlacesToWork.com to create a business model for attracting job applicants in a competitor-free marketplace for “award winning Employer of Choice Companies”. He also works with business leaders and their teams to design intentional dialogue systems that transform the way people work together and help them build the kind of innovative thinking into their workplace that produces a “performance culture”.

Dave Roche

David C. Roche has held key Marketing and General Management positions with major consumer goods and pharmaceutical companies including Johnson & Johnson Canada, Schering Canada, Nordic Laboratories Canada, Marion Merrell Dow USA, Janssen Pharmaceutica USA and Rhone Poulenc Rorer USA. During his career, he has worked in consumer packaged goods, pharmaceuticals and advertising in Canada, Mexico and the USA. He served as President of Schering Canada and President of Nordic Laboratories before moving to the USA as head of Sales and Marketing at Marion Merrell Dow.

Dave holds a BSc and an MBA. He has served as Chairman of the Associate Member Board of the National Wholesale Drug Association, as a member of the Advisory Board of the University Of Florida School of Pharmacy and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Canada. Dave remarried in 2004 and he and Diane live in Chicago and have a combined total of seven children. Dave enjoys languages (speaks some French and Spanish). He is an avid golfer and musician.

Sophie Slade

Sophie SladeSophie Slade, Ph.D. offers Imago Relationship Therapy, workshops for couples and individuals, and training for therapists in her Montreal office and internationally, in French and English. As Chair of the Programs Committee, she is passionate about supporting the creative energy of the Imago community, maintaining the highest reputation for Imago programs and products world-wide and bringing Imago into the lives of as many people as possible. She has personally contributed to the revision of the Getting… and Keeping… workshops and manuals, as well as to the creation of “Deepening the Conscious Self: An Advanced Toolbox for Working with Individuals, Couples and Groups”, the Imago Connects “Introduction to Imago” seminar and “Through Conflict to Connection”. Her husband, David, shares her enthusiasm for Imago and travels with her whenever possible.

Tani Strain

Tani Strain is a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist and Advanced Clinician with a private practice in Illinois. She has many years of experience as a Board Member on Not For Profit Corporations, having been President of the Alumni Association of the Family Institute at Northwestern University, and alumni representative to the Family Institute Board of Directors for 13 years. She is experienced regarding Board development, strategic planning, fund raising and conference planning.

Tani is an AAMFT Approved Supervisor, and was part of the adjunct faculty at the Family Institute at Northwestern University for many years. She was 3 time chair of the Alumni Conference which routinely drew 500 participants.

In 1995 she was named Alumnus of the Year for the Family Institute at Northwestern. Personal interests include sailing on Lake Michigan, gourmet cooking, gardening and photography. She is the mother of 2 grown daughters, grandmother of 1 and widowed in 2006.

Virginia Thomas

Virginia ThomasVirginia Thomas began her journey in Imago in 1994 with her partner, therapist Pat Smith, and took the certification course for Imago Educators in 1998. She is a nurse with a Master's degrees in both administrative leadership and nursing and worked with the Milwaukee Health Department for 30 years. She continues to work in the field of public health as a consultant. She was welcomed onto the IRI board in 2003 and has served as Chair of the Board since October 2005. She has seen many transitions in the Imago community over the years of her involvement and believes that we are on a good path for achieving our goals.

Maryrita Wieners

Maryrita WienersMaryrita Wieners fell in love with Imago and became a Certified Imago Therapist in 1994. She been on the IRI Board since 2002, and is the co-chair of the Imago Global Membership Committee. She loves connecting with Imago colleagues and regions around the globe, and passionately believes in the vision that was shared at the Global Summit in Toronto in 2004—WE are WE. She is also committed to the Imago community becoming more dialogical. She was part of the FirePit team and is a Peace Project member and Communologue facilitator.

Maryrita works in Washington, DC and is a proud member of MAIT (MidAtlantic ImagoTherapists.) She and her husband, Dan Glaser, live in Silver Spring, MD with their two cats, Reuben and Judah. She loves the color orange and if you’re looking for her at an Imago gathering, she’s the woman in orange!

Tim Atkinson - Executive Director

Tim Atkinson is Executive Director of Imago Relationships International, a non-profit which aims at helping couples, families and individuals re-create genuine connection with each other, based on the teachings of Harville Hendrix, PhD. Tim graduated as a Chemical Engineer from Cambridge University, United Kingdom, and subsequently worked for many years in technical, management and marketing positions with a global corporation. While working on assignment in the USA, Tim took the opportunity to follow a more creative path, initially studying photography in New York City, with a strong emphasis on documenting people with disabilities. Through this work he deepened his involvement with the United Way, eventually joining as Chief Development Officer. He subsequently joined Routolo Associates, a leading fund-raising consulting firm, and consequently has been able to bring a diverse set of skills to the management of Imago.

While at Imago, Tim has been instrumental in consolidating the organization as the largest worldwide community of couple’s therapists, with over 1,000 members in 25 countries. He is now leading their expansion into social action, and to explore the application of their experience resolving conflict in couples to many other fields of relationship.

Tim’s wife Helen is a writer and PR consultant, and together they attended the Imago Clinical Training program, to deepen their knowledge of Imago. The live in New York City, but spend weekends hiking, biking, swimming and entertaining friends in their cottage near the Catskill Mountains. They share a love of music, and Tim continues his interest in photography, currently seeking to explore visually how couples connect.
