The Transformation Issue

Welcome to the first edition of Imago World. It’s a way to connect us all with what’s happening in the Imago community.

This month we reflect on the transformation taking place in our organization and share our visions for the future.

We hope you enjoy this first edition, and look forwards to hearing back from you with your suggestions for articles, and your own submissions.

Tim Atkinson
Executive Director
Imago Relationships International

Tim and Helen Atkinson recently attended their first Imago Workshop presented by Hedy and Yumi Schleifer. Here they are practicing.

A word from our Founders, as they step out…
Harville Hendrix and Helen LaKelly Hunt

When we co-founded, with a group of Imago therapists, Imago Relationships International, we were delighted that the future of the Imago organization would rest in the hands of the Imago community through an appointed board. We transferred the ownership of the Institute for Imago Relationship Therapy to the board and began the process of licensing to the board our intellectual properties. Our commitment was to serve on the board until the organization had the leadership of a strong board, a competent Executive Director and financial stability.

From the beginning the board has demonstrated dedication beyond the call of duty and competently managed the organization through the transition. Their work has been amazing. In the selection of Tim Atkinson as Executive Director, the board has found a leader with exceptional organizational talents and strategic skills. Added to that, the superb consultation of the Goldsmith Group has completed the picture. The financial picture is stable and we are in the process of completing the licensing of the intellectual properties.

Given that all those things are in place, we attended our last board meeting in November, 2004. We feel comfortable that the Imago organization is in excellent hands and that the future of Imago, its commitment to the welfare of Imago therapists worldwide (Imago therapists are now practicing in 28 countries) and its vision to “transform the world one relationship at a time” is on course and will be eminently successful.

However, we are not going away. We will be taking assignments the Board gives us. We will also be available to help with fundraising for the philanthropic aspect of the mission, and Harville will continue to serve as Chancellor of the Imago International Institute. In addition, we will be active on the lecture circuit and continuing to write on Imago theory and practice. We also plan to slow down a bit, and sit back and enjoy what is to come.

Blessings and peace, Harville and Helen
