Ethics Interpretations

Imago Relationships International is an organization for professional members from other disciplines such as APA, AAMTF, NASW etc: and we expect members to follow the ethical codes of their own professional organization.

However from time-to-time the Executive Committee receives complaints, and follows the procedures set out in our policies library.   We refer to the ethics code of APA to guide us.

Some of the situations we encounter have unique features, due to the nature of our work.  This section contains some interpretations of the code to cover these situations.  The Board of Directors of IRI urges all Imago Therapists and professionals to take heed of these interpretations, which have been developed in consultation with the Imago faculty.

Materials for making a presentation on Imago to professional groups or potential clients

These resources are to help you if you have an opportunity to make a presentation on Imago to a group of therapists, or potential clients.

They include some articles to download which might help you, and links to other resources which may be of use.

We will be building up this collection over time, but meanwhile if you would like to request something specific to be added, or have something you wrote to share, please contact us.

Guidelines for presenting

You are very much encouraged to make presentations to groups - but please keep them to less than 4 hours.  Presentations which are longer than this tend to resemble our couples workshops, and we believe we can help couples better by encouraging them to take the "Getting The Love You Want" weekend workshop.

Please use your judgment when giving out Imago material which is marked as copyrighted.  It's OK to handout a page or two, like a dialogue handout, to encourage people to seek more.  That's normally referred to as "fair-use".

Introductory Programs

We do have two introductory programs you can use when presenting Imago to a group.  These have high quality materials, and tested.   Evaluations have been very high when these materials are used.

  • ImagoConnects - 3-hour introduction.  Materials include leaders guides including a demo DVD and participant guides  Check the store for discounts on orders of 12 or more.

  • "Through Conflict to Connection" - this DVD based program has a one-hour documentary style feature - but you can always choose to show a short section to support your presentation.

Dialogue Handouts

These handouts help to explain the dialogue and to be used by people to practice it:

Descriptions of Imago

These brief descriptions may be good as a basis for a short talk, or as a handout

Copyrights and Trademarks

Copyrights and Trademarks are a complex field, but which have great impact on Imago.  One of the things which makes it more complex for us is that copyright and trademark law has been developed an applied for other fields, such as music and movies, or commercial products like "Coke".  There's less history to guide us in the field of a brand of psychotherapy, with a complex mix of workshops and processes.

Our own understanding of the field as it applies to Imago is still evolving, but these documents will give you a feel for our current views.

1. Procedure 5.3  which is our general Q&A document on copyright and trademark policies

2. Procedure 8.14 which shows you how to apply to have your new program licensed by IRI

Getting the Love You Want workshop presenters guide

During 2008 we ran a series of teleclasses around presenting the "Getting The Love You Want" workshop guide, led by Wendy Patterson and Sophie Slade.  These were based on a new guide that they had written.

You can listen to the phone calls by following this link.

The workshop presenting guide is attached below:
