North Carolina

Libba Wells
In seeking to make contacts and bring new energy and activism to our area, it seemed useful to include the entire state of North Carolina in our region. We currently have 80 Certified Imago Therapists, with one in training; four workshop presenters, with one in training; and one clinical instructor.

We first met in June 2002 when there was a discussion of merging AIRT and the Institute. We held a state meeting in March of this year and plan to meet again in the fall. We have a phone bridge call on the second Tuesday of every month. A supervisory group has begun to meet monthly in Chapel Hill, and Rick Stolp holds another meeting each month in Raleigh for a small fee. We are continuing to assess what the Imago community here in North Carolina needs, including supervision, networking opportunities, support, ongoing learning, and joint participation in service projects.

Effective marketing efforts of our individual members have included mailings, references to their websites, personal presentations, and networking. A group of Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill therapists met for supervision some years ago and contributed money towards a joint brochure. Unfortunately, the brochure never materialized, but since the money is still available, we could probably use that towards a joint marketing effort now.

I see Imago as an integration and further development of all that is best about psychology: it is a very spiritual, loving, boundaried theory and therapeutic approach. I find the best of my Christian beliefs exemplified, amplified, and embraced within this community, and it continues to fill my soul. I experience Imago as a place in which all humans are cherished, valued, and appreciated. We hold such a tender and common bond; let’s not forget the fabric is woven of so many artful, graceful colors and textures of all kinds.
